Guitarist Eugene K has one of the hottest releases out called "Just A Hint" and we feature the laid back '"Blue Sunset" which sounds like a cross between Lee Ritenour and Lawson Rollins. (Jazz Net 247 Radio)

Eugene K returns smooth jazz to its funky roots on new album "Wonder Groove".

Hailing from Great Britain, Eugene K returns smooth jazz to its ‘80s heyday on his new album "Wonder Groove". Instead of the colorless, saxophone-driven uniformity that the genre eventually succumbed to, Eugene K keeps its roots alive by remembering the urban rhythms that once glued its foundation. Smooth jazz is at its best when it leans toward fusion, injecting its hybrid of traditional and synthetic instrumentation with a funky backbeat.

In "Wonder Groove", Eugene K knits together patterns of acoustic guitar prettiness and electronic heartbeats. The opening cut, "On the Island," unites Eugene K's gunslinger mastery of unplugged riffing with a Latin pulse. His guitar playing takes on a personality all its own, seemingly climbing to the heavens as he really starts to jam. While "Ginger Flame" finds Eugene K back on land with a relaxed yet still engaging tone, he achieves liftoff again on "Potato Sky" and "Happy Mode" with insistent funk rhythms and bubbly synthesizers. "Spring Walk" even recalls the electro film scores of Harold Faltermeyer

Eugene K was born in Russia and began studying music at the age of 12. He later attended the Moscow College of Music. Upon leaving college, Eugene K joined the Oleg Lundstrem Big Band. His career blossoming, he was selected to become leader of the Moscow Philharmonic Jazz-Fusion Orchestra. Since he relocated to the U.K., Eugene K has lectured and performed at the Royal Academy of Music, and BBC radio devoted an entire program to his life in music. Eugene K's original compositions have been licensed to numerous movies, TV shows, and commercials; he also has done work for Disney, NBC, CBS, among other large corporations..

For those unfamiliar with Eugene K's music, "Wonder Groove" provides an accessible, infectious introduction, brimming with his slick, sleek guitar moves and throbbing electronics.
